Choosing the perfect time for your newborn session

Welcoming a newborn into the world is an extraordinary and precious experience for any family. As parents, we strive to preserve these fleeting moments and create lasting memories.

Newborn photography sessions offer the opportunity to capture the innocence, beauty, and tiny features of your brand new little one.

However, determining the ideal time to schedule a newborn session can be a crucial decision to ensure the best possible outcome. But when is the best time to schedule a newborn session and why does timing matter so much?

The First Two Weeks:

The first two weeks after birth are often considered the optimal window for shooting newborn babies. This is because babies are still in their “sleepy” phase, making it easier to capture those adorable, peaceful poses. They tend to curl up naturally, reminiscent of their time in the womb, allowing photographers to create artistic and heartwarming images. Additionally, babies are less likely to develop baby acne or have skin peeling during this stage, resulting in photographs with smooth, flawless skin.

Days 5 to 10:

Within the first ten days of a baby’s life, they are typically more flexible, making it easier to gently pose them in various positions. They tend to sleep deeply and for longer stretches, allowing photographers to capture those precious moments without interruptions. This early stage is ideal for capturing those iconic newborn poses, such as curled up in a basket or nestled in a parent’s arms.

Beyond the First Two Weeks:

While the first two weeks are considered the prime time for newborn sessions, it doesn’t mean that capturing beautiful images is impossible after these 'most-ideal' timeframes.. As babies grow, they become more alert and may be less willing to sleep soundly during the session. However, this stage can offer the opportunity to capture their emerging personality and expressions! Photographing slightly older newborns, around three to six weeks, may result in wide-eyed shots, capturing their curiosity and early interactions with the world.

Choosing the right time for a newborn session is essential for capturing this early stage in infancy that passes so quickly. While the first two weeks are generally considered the optimal window, each baby is unique, and the timing may vary. Remember, regardless of the timing, the most important aspect is to create lasting memories that reflect the love, joy, and beauty of your newborn.
